Pawel Siwczak
Wonders of Nature
harpsichord recital
With this programme Pawel focuses on a Pastorale theme, through some evocative and descriptive pieces for solo harpsichord. We promise a restful and restorative time in a musical garden where you will hear happy hens searching for worms, imagine the delicate petals of the lily softly opening on a warm summer evening. It is all rather peaceful under the linden tree, even the lion decides to take a nap, but then Jupiter has some other ideas and puts on a show of thunder and lightning, reminding us that nature is a fantastic spectacle…
This is music from the Renaissance to the late Baroque, by English, French, German and Dutch composers, focusing on a favourite theme of the time: rural life, and nature, implicitly set against the more complex life of a court or a city (to which the artists belonged).
For us today (and especially for us Londoners) nature does still symbolise escape, rest and rejuvenation and we hope this concert brings you just that.
Played on a copy of an 18-the century instrument (based on the original in Villa Medici in Rome).
This concert has been made free to celebrate the new partnership between Bach Club and All Saints Tooting.
